Applegate Studios Membership

Our Applegate Studios Membership is for makers who want regular access to a fully equipped ceramics studio and the freedom to develop their own work independently.

Whether you’re continuing after one of our courses or already have experience with clay, membership gives you your own dedicated shelf, access to the studio and equipment, and up to 12 hours of studio time every week.

£180 per month
2-month minimum commitment

What’s included

A space to store your work, clay and materials while you’re working on your projects.

Studio tools & equipment
Use of our shared studio tools, equipment and wheels during your booked sessions.

Studio glazes
Access to Applegate Studios glazes in reasonable quantities.

A welcome pack
When you join, you’ll receive an Applegate Studios tote bag, a beginners' pottery tool kit and a bag of clay to get you started.

Studio hours

Members can book studio time during our published member hours:

Monday: 10am–9pm
Tuesday: 1:30pm–9pm
Wednesday: 10am–9pm
Thursday: 10am–9pm
Friday: 1:30pm–9pm
Saturday: by prior arrangement
Sunday: by prior arrangement

Studio sessions are booked through Bookwhen and are subject to availability.

We currently have space for up to six people working in the studio at one time, so some sessions may fill up. Where available, you’ll be able to join a waiting list for a full session.

Your 12 hours are a weekly allowance and unused hours don't roll over.

Clay & firing

Membership covers your studio access and shelf space. Clay, additional materials and kiln firing are charged separately.

You’re welcome to bring your own clay and materials, but these need to be approved by Applegate Studios before use. Any additional clays, glazes, stains, oxides or other ceramic materials must have the appropriate COSHH information available where required.

Kiln firing

Kiln space is booked separately:

Nabertherm 220L kiln
Half kiln – £45
Full kiln – £70

Potterycrafts 40L kiln
Half kiln – £20
Full kiln – £40

You’ll be responsible for booking your kiln space and preparing your work for firing. All work must meet Applegate Studios' firing requirements before it goes into the kiln.

A shared studio

Applegate Studios is a shared working space, so we ask everyone to be considerate of the people around them.

Members are expected to:

• Keep their workspace clean and tidy

• Follow our cleaning and health & safety procedures

• Help minimise clay and silica dust

• Look after studio tools and equipment

• Return everything to its proper place

• Respect other people's work and belongings

• Report any breakages, accidents or hazards

• Leave the studio ready for the next person

Membership is designed for independent making. It doesn't include regular tuition or unlimited technical support.

If you’d like some extra guidance, private tuition with Bryony can be booked separately:

1:1 – £40 per hour
1:2 – £60 per hour

Bringing a guest

Want to bring someone along to make with you?

Guests are welcome with prior arrangement and are charged at £15 per guest, per hour.

Guest spaces are subject to studio capacity and availability, and guests must follow our studio rules and remain with the member they are visiting.

Your membership, your practice

Membership is intended to give you the space and time to develop your own ceramic practice.

It doesn't include permission to teach classes, run workshops or private pottery events, provide pottery tuition to others, or use the studio to run your own teaching business.

Membership commitment

Membership is £180 per month, with a minimum two-month commitment.

Your first two months are payable when your membership begins. After this, your membership continues on a rolling monthly basis, with one month's notice required to cancel.

Taking a break from your membership

We understand that sometimes life gets in the way. If you’re unable to use the studio due to sickness, holidays or other circumstances, you can request to temporarily suspend your membership for 1–2 months.

A 50% holding fee (£90 per month) applies during the suspension period. This keeps your membership and dedicated shelf reserved for you while you're away.

Suspensions must be agreed with Applegate Studios in advance and are subject to availability.

Your normal £180 monthly membership fee will resume automatically when your suspension period ends.

Re-joining Applegate Studios

If you cancel your membership and would like to return at a later date, you’re very welcome to apply to re-join Applegate Studios.

Re-joining is subject to membership availability and will be at the current membership price and terms at the time of re-joining.

A new minimum commitment will apply when you re-join.

If you suspend your membership rather than cancel it, your membership and dedicated shelf will remain reserved for you during the agreed suspension period, and your membership will automatically resume at the end of the suspension.

When your membership ends, your shelf must be completely cleared and all work, materials and belongings removed from the studio.
